My Return To Katsucon
On February 17, 2024 I had the pleasure of attending Katsucon at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor, Maryland. It’s been some years since I went to the convention. I don't think I've been since high school, so I was excited to see how much the event has grown. I'm never disappointed by the level of cosplay that I see at these conventions. The mashups of Pokemon and Deadpool, the homage to Sailor Moon, Demon Slayer, Naruto and more. I wanted to try out some things that I haven't done anywhere else. I participated in a Mahjong for beginners lesson. I played on the computer when I was younger so I wanted to get a refresher and also learn how to play the game in real life. I've actually won two games back to back. I actually bought me a Mahjong set because I want to bring this game to my friends. Then I checked out the Masquerade Ball in the Main Event hall. I thought it would be more about showcasing the cosplay. I was not expecting to see the cosplayers perform. That was a nice surprise. Finally, I attended the HBCU Con cosplay meet up and took some amazing photos of people that look like me. That's always empowering to see more of us together.
