DC Music Summit Teaches Young Artists The Industry

On October 15, 2023, I had the pleasure of taking my students to the DC Music Summit at Duke Ellington High School. The DC Music Summit is a non-profit that aims to uplift the young musicians, artists and journalists through networking events and workshops. One of the workshops my students and I attended was Music As Therapy facilitated Dark Squad Entertainment. Ran by Eclipse and Patrise, their mission is to heal trauma through the power of music. I thought my students would just cover the event, but they were fully immersed in the workshops and the whole event. They even got to be on a podcast, The District of Misfits. We saw a number of great performances from local artists and even interviewed the Dior Ashley Brown, the founder and executive director of DC Music Summit. We had such a great time. Iā€™m definitely taking my students next year.
