Otakon 2025 In The Books

On August 8th-10th, I covered the 31st annual Otakon at the Walter E. Convention Center in Washington, DC. Otakon is held to celebrate the common interest of Asian pop culture and fandom culture it has created. They gave a platform to musical guests like Babybeard and K-pop group Billie. Also, Voice actors such as Hiroshi Kamiya (Levi from Attack on Titan, Yato from Noragami), Nobutoshi Canna (Guts from Berserk and Kabuto from Naruto), and many more. Additionally, thought-provoking panels, concert-like performances, interactive workshops, and encounters with new projects were all featured during the convention. A panel I would like to emphasize is ghost stories: it goes beyond the infamous dub, where I learned more about real urban legends in Japan, which talks about the different variations of those legends. I had an amazing experience and hope to discover more next year!
