Take Off With Fly Light

One of my students invited me to this open mic night at Bus Boys and Poets. Little did I know that she’s been exploring acting in this program called Fly By Light created by my former coworker, Mama Princess. It’s a small world indeed. Students for different high schools in DC come together as a collective to showcase their talent. Fly By Light’s mission is to help the youth succeed academically through transformative and holistic methods to help cope through trauma and violence. As an educator, I understand the importance of having programs like this for teenagers. So many of them go through a lot at such a young age like , gun violence, lost of a parent, or abuse. I hope the city continues to fund similar programs to assist our youth to grow and blossom.
